Basic SEO for the budding photographer
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to share a few of the new things I've learned along the way as I've started posting my photography online. I'm still very new to this so please feel free to comment below with any suggestions or questions.
- Create an online presence through various websites such as LinkedIn, about.me, Tumblr, Facebook, 500px, Foursquare, Flickr, WordPress, Vimeo and of course Instagram.
Upload your profile, some content and be sure to link them all to each other. I find that the about.me page is a good quick reference to find the links to all of your sites. Every time I create a new profile, I always make sure to upload it to my about.me page first just so I have it all in one place.
- Create a sitemap and robots.txt file for your site. This required a little more research since blogspot and wordpress are slightly different. Wordpress automatically creates a sitemap for you and notifies search engines. For Blogspot you have to generate some text for your robots.txt that you can add in your blog settings.
- Add tags to the images in your blog posts so it will show up in Google image searches and if the image is unable to load, you can see the text you've provided instead.
I have noticed slightly better results with these tips and I hope you will too. I will probably create a Part 2 to this post in the near future.
Thanks for tuning in!
